'Such a dangerous one' - Exclusive: Brown warns Aston Villa after 'Huge' update

Michael Brown has warned Aston Villa about rushing John McGinn back from his injury as he closes in on a return to action.

The former Manchester City and Sheffield United midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes Dean Smith will be desperate to get the Scotland international back as soon as possible.

The 25-year-old has been out of action for the last two months after breaking his ankle, missing nine Premier League games.

Dean Smith has delivered an update on the midfielder’s fitness, believing he will be targeting a return over the next couple of games.

However, Brown has warned the Villans that they cannot afford to pin all their hopes on him and bring him back too quickly.

Asked about McGinn’s impending return, Brown told Football Insider: “It’s huge but I think you’ve just got to be careful, it’s such a dangerous one for them now to say in this problem, let’s get him straight back in.

“The last thing they want is for him to break anything (again). You need to actually weigh it up. If it’s an extra seven days then so be it but I thought he was such a positive, he was creating.

“They’ve missed him, that’s what they need, a new signing-type thing.”

McGinn played 20 times for Villa this season before being sidelined, starting every Premier League game.

He has a total of 65 appearances under his belt for the club, having signed from Hibernian in 2018.

In other Aston Villa news, Darren Bent has been left fuming over a “wasted talent” at Villa Park.
