'It could become a £50m sale' - Tottenham told what it will take to agree Brian Brobbey deal
Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs that should be keeping an eye on Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey ahead of the upcoming transfer windows.
That is according to senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The 24-year-old scored a hat-trick at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, taking most of the headlines despite Sunderland's 5-3 loss to Manchester City.
The Black Cats signed Brobbey from Ajax last summer for under £22million, and he netted seven goals in his opening Premier League campaign.
But the Netherlands international caught the attention on Sunday, and will continue to do so if he can produce many similar displays.
Tottenham spent over £400m in the summer transfer window, but still appear to lack a consistent out and out centre-forward.
Brian Brobbey 'looks a very good investment'
Brobbey came through the academy at Ajax before leaving on a free transfer to RB Leipzig in 2021.
Just six months later, he would return to the Dutch giants, initially on loan before signing permanently in the summer.
"He's had a good school, really. He was at Ajax, then he went to Leipzig, then he went back to Ajax," King told Football Insider.
"Last season he was top scorer for Sunderland with seven goals, and certainly the way he finished against Man City, he did take his goals well. He's a Dutch international. Sunderland picked him up, paid decent money for him. I think that could be a very good buy for them.
"If you say to Sunderland that there's a bigger club out there, then I think Sunderland would be quite upset by the term of bigger club than Sunderland.
"Sunderland have got great support, they've got a great history. He's beginning to look a very good investment for £22m. When you think what Tottenham paid for their centre-forwards, and by the way, Tottenham still need a centre-forward.
"I think he'd be interesting for anybody. If you're going to score goals like you did against Man City, but when you look back and think he was a top scorer last year with seven goals, maybe that's why he's still at Sunderland.
"Maybe if that had been 17, things would have changed. So this season, it's going to be interesting to see how many goals he does get. That £22m investment could become a £50m sale."
Brobbey's absurd stats vs Man City
Ruben Dias is a four-time Premier League winner and hugely experienced, but he will not have many more difficult days than he did against Brobbey on Sunday.
The Sunderland striker got five shots away overall, and created a chance. He completed two dribbles and was fouled an extraordinary five times - more than anybody else on the pitch.
In the duel, there was little contest. Brobbey faced 12 overall and won 10, dominating Dias and Marc Guehi.
The 24-year-old is a unique quantity in the Premier League and could well be incredibly valuable.
