Regis Le Bris: Sunderland sack update from expert

Published on:

Regis Le Bris has three Sunderland Premier League games to save his job.

That is according to experienced former Everton, Tottenham and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 50-year-old is under mounting pressure at the Stadium of Light after a dismal start to the season that has seen his team win just one from seven Premier League games.

Le Bris guided Sunderland to a dream seventh-place finish on their top flight return last season, marking one of the most impressive campaigns ever by a newly-promoted side.

But the luxury of European competition has also brought massively increased demands on the Frenchman's squad, which are proving hard to manage.

Sunderland drew with Lech Poznan on Thursday and will now face the visit of Leeds United on Sunday as they attempt to halt a run of four consecutive Premier League defeats.

Sunderland suffering from 'overachieving season'

When Sunderland won the Championship play-offs, they also won the gift of featuring at the bottom of many Premier League predictions for the season.

Le Bris' team managed to shock everybody, and he will hope that he is able to do the same by turning around their early-season form.

"They've suffered injuries, like most clubs do at some stage. I don't think they've got the big quality squad that a lot of the Premier League clubs have had," King told Football Insider.

"Last season, you look at them and you think it was an overachieving season for them, because they've certainly got a lot of decent results. Now they're in a situation where they need to win this next game. Of course, they're in Europe as well.

"It's going to be a difficult next two weeks, as I can see, for Sunderland. The manager's done a great job, a decent fella, but the essence for Sunderland is to remain in the Premier League, and that's what they've got to do.

"These next two or three Premier League games are going to be very telling for them."

Nordi Mukiele quotes shed light on Sunderland situation

Speaking after Sunderland were beaten by Bournemouth on Sunday, in a game marred by Kevin Danso's red card and Omar Alderete's mistake, Nordi Mukiele did not hold back.

"I think this game is just what we are looking [like] from the beginning of the season," the defender told Sky Sports.

"We are not good enough. Why? I don't know. Maybe because we became arrogant, this is what I think."

Le Bris' players will now have to prove that they can still perform, with their manager's job potentially on the line.
