Sunderland hidden gem is the perfect Brian Brobbey backup
Sunderland and Regis Le Bris have been handed a major boost in Brian Brobbey's injury latest at the Stadium of Light.
The manager, though he wouldn't touch on if he would feature, confirmed that the centre-forward had trained and travelled with the squad ahead of Torreense.
Brobbey's last actions before the international break were netting a hat-trick against Manchester City, but has since been missing.
Playing for the Netherlands, the 24-year-old suffered a hamstring injury, a setback that nobody knows when he could really return properly from.
Wilson Isidor led the line against Brighton in his absence, but it was not nearly enough to lay a glove on the Seagulls in a 2-0 loss at the weekend.
Le Bris will be hoping that Brobbey returns soon, but with Premier League clubs circling for his signature, the Black Cats may need a replacement either way.
Trey Samuel-Ogunsuyi deserves recognition at Sunderland
Luckily for Sunderland, it would appear that the club's academy has found an up-and-coming talent, one who joined at 10 years of age.
Trey Samuel-Ogunsuyi, 19, is currently impressing for the Black Cats' Under-21s, netting seven goals in seven games in 2026-27.
Last season, he notched six goal contributions in three games for the U21s, in between six-month loan spells with Falkirk and Shrewsbury Town.
He netted twice in 12 games for the League Two side, showcasing his talents in the final third and showing those back at the Stadium of Light what he's capable of.
Samuel-Ogunsuyi continues to impress in the youth ranks, most recently bagging a brace against Arsenal on Saturday, 10 October.
The sooner Le Bris promotes him to the first team, the better for all parties. It may be sooner than Sunderland realise that they're calling on him.
Could Sunderland lose Brian Brobbey?
A handful of clubs across Europe have already registered an interest in the talented centre-forward, who netted seven times in his first season.
Football Insider understands that Sunderland have no plans to sell, but Manchester United continue to push for his signature ahead of January.
Tottenham Hotspur are amongst those eyeing up a move, and it could be that these links turn the player's head, forcing the club into a sale instead.
The Black Cats need to be prepared for all eventualities, and that includes losing Brobbey to a Premier League rival in the January window.
