Danny Mills claims that West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini will be delighted to have Aaron Cresswell back as part of his squad after the defender’s injury layoff.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former England full-back says that the left-sided defender is one of the most consistent performers at the London Stadium and that he offers a more defensive option than Arthur Masuaku.
The Democratic Republic of Congo international started the Hammers’ 2-0 defeat to Everton, Cresswell missing out completely, but Claret and Hugh report that the English left-back has had a full week of training after his injury blow.
Mills says that the return of West Ham’s “Mr Consistent” will be a big boost and that he could step straight into the side when they take on Sheffield United this weekend.
Mills told Football Insider: “Cresswell was out injured for this one. He’s just Mr Consistent at left-back, he’s been superb in that position. It’s not really Masuaku’s favourite position and Everton certainly had quality down that right-hand side.
“They’ll be delighted to get Cresswell back as soon as possible and that might mean Masuaku slides up the field.”
Cresswell had emerged as Pellegrini’s first-choice at full-back prior to his setback, playing three consecutive games in place of his teammate, netting two goals.
Meanwhile, Masuaku has started five of the Irons’ Premier League games, including picking up a red card for two bookings against Aston Villa.
