Sutton: Exciting PL attacker could make impact at Celtic next season after possible summer deal
Chris Sutton has said that Chelsea’s exciting young attacking midfielder Charly Musonda could benefit from the potential exit of Tom Rogic in the summer.
Despite exciting in his first game for Celtic after joining on an 18-month loan from the Premier League giants, Musonda has been limited to just four league appearances for Celtic.
He’s had two Premiership starts back in February but since then he’s only had a four-minute cameo in the 2-1 win against Hamilton.
It’s not what the youngster would have envisaged after making the trip north of the border, but he may have an opportunity to impress if Rogic goes.
That could hinge on the Australian impressing in the World Cup.
Talking to Football.London, Sutton said: “He went up to Celtic with a big reputation and within the space of two games, he came on in the Europa game against Zenit and set up the winning goal at home, and you’re thinking this boy has got something.

“In the short space of time after, Brendan Rodgers kept him out and he barely gets a game now.
“Rodgers has said that he doesn’t trust him and he’s down the pecking order.
“He’s talked about him coming to the fore next season, but you have to say he has a lot to do to come from that position.
“There are some question marks over the likes of Tom Rogic, who’s playing in the World Cup this summer, that would maybe open up a position for Musonda.”
Football Insider verdict:
Celtic fans won’t want to lose big Tom Rogic and were shocked when news broke that he had rejected a new contract. He’s under contract until the end of next season but if he has a big World Cup and offers come in, he may well leave. That would open the door for Musonda but it seems there’s something big that’s stopping him get a run in the side. When Celtic finally confirm the title it will be interesting to see if Rodgers gives him a run in the side. If not, it’s hard to see that he would be trusted next season. After not getting games at Chelsea, it’s been a rough move for Musonda and the progression of his career.
