Chris Sutton has urged Celtic to cash in on Olivier Ntcham as part of a massive summer overhaul.
The former Hoops striker and high-profile pundit is convinced Celtic require a “radical summer rebuild” even though they are closing in on the treble treble.
Sutton identified Ntcham as one player who is expendable and would raise considerable cash for the club in the forthcoming window.
“Olivier Ntcham is interesting,” Sutton told the Daily Record. “Celtic could get good money for him. If they take it it’ll be another body to replace but his fee of around £12million would provide cash to spend elsewhere.”
Football Insider verdict:
If Celtic were offered £12million for Ntcham, they should take the money and run. The 23-year-old has occasionally looked like a mighty fine player since signing from Manchester City for £4.5million in the summer of 2017. His athleticism, power and industry has helped Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and company to dominate midfields and continue Celtic’s domestic hegemony. But, as any Hoop will tell you, Ntcham can also look a “bang average” player at times, to quote Sutton’s own description this week of Andy Halliday. Sure, he is young and yet to reach his peak but Ntcham’s passing can be wonky, his set pieces can be awful and he can cut a disinterested figure who looks like he would rather be somewhere else. There is a sense that Ntcham is passing through, rather than part of the green-and-white fabric of the club. £12million and the chance to invest in the squad? Yes, please. Show us the money.
