Alan Hutton believes Aston Villa will price Tottenham out of a stunning move to sign Jack Grealish this summer.
The former Villa and Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims the Lilywhites will not have the financial power to prise the 24-year-old from Dean Smith’s side this summer.
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast (Thursday, July 9), former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp touted Grealish for a move to north London, suggesting he was exactly the player Jose Mourinho needs to sign this summer.
Speaking back in 2018, the Aston Villa star lifted the lid on his disappointment of missing out on a move to Spurs after a £25million move fell through.
Hutton believes that Mourinho’s men are now out of the running to sign his old teammate amid talk of an £80million price tag on the attacking midfielder’s head.
Asked if the ship had sailed on Spurs signing Grealish, Hutton told Football Insider: “Possibly, because of the money situation. I think from a Villa point of view they’ll be wanting a big fee if they are going to let their top player leave.
“There’s been a lot of money being bandied about, talk of £80million, around that mark so I can’t see Tottenham paying that amount of money just in the situation at the moment.
“He’s one I think they’d struggle to get because of the cost.”
Grealish has scored nine goals and contributed eight assists across all competitions this season, with Villa battling against the threat of relegation.
The Villans sit four points clear of safety with three games left to play.
In other Aston Villa news, Alan Hutton has revealed the real reason John McGinn isn’t hitting the heights after talks with his ex-teammate.
