Talks scheduled: Arsenal prepare huge offer for international midfielder - report

By Will Butcher

Arsenal are set to tie down the future of midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and make him one of the club’s highest paid players, according to a report.

The Mirror claim the Gunners are willing to pay the 23-year-old star £100,000-a-week, with only a handful of players being paid six figures on a weekly basis in north London.

It is believed that Liverpool and both Manchester clubs are keeping tabs on the England international, who has impressed from both central midfielder and right wing-back this term.

He has a contract until the summer of 2018 and is one of a number of players whose future at the Emirates Stadium is in doubt, along with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

However, the former Southampton star could now see his long-term future remain with Arsene Wenger’s side, as he prepares to face Premier League champions Leicester on Wednesday night.

This season, Arsenal’s number 15 has provided nine assists in all competitions as well as scoring six goals against the likes of West Ham, Liverpool and Ludogorets during his 41 appearances.

Football Insider verdict:

Oxlade-Chamberlain must be given whatever he wants to stay at the Emirates Stadium. He is producing the kind of performances that is expected of a player far beyond his years, showing raw talent and versatility in a number of different positions. Tying him down will keep one of England’s best players in north London, but more importantly it will prevent Arsenal’s rivals from signing Oxlade-Chamberlain and the star coming back to haunt them. The Gunners can now build a team around the midfielder, rather than having to replace him. If Wenger sees a back-three as the future of his new side, Oxlade-Chamberlain could be one of the big stars of next season.

In other Arsenal news, this European side are ready to spend £20million on one of the Gunners’ senior stars.
