Reliable journalist: Tottenham agree record fee, medical on Monday

By Tom Blackburn

West Brom have agreed a club record fee of £13million for Tottenham winger Nacer Chadli, according to a report.

Telegraph journalist John Percy claimed on his personal Twitter account that the two clubs have agreed a deal and the medical should take place on Monday.

The Sun reported on Sunday morning that Baggies manager Tony Pulis was planning a £12million swoop for the Belgium international winger.

The Mirror claimed earlier this month that Spurs placed a £20million price tag on the 27-year-old, who cost them £7million from FC Twente in 2013.

The report said that Swansea and Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund were interested in the winger, but neither club would consider spending over the odds on Chadli.

Chadli has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs and is deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.

Senior players Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Erik Lamela have been the preferred options in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, with summer signing Vincent Janssen being slowly introduced into the first-team.

With Spurs open to selling the attacker, West Brom appear to have taken the opportunity to bolster their struggling attacking set-up.

Last season only relegated Aston Villa scored fewer goals than the Midlands club as West Brom scored just 34 goals in 38 league games.

Chadli starred in 40 encounters for Mauricio Pochettino’s side last season in all competitions scoring seven goals and providing five assists.

He has also made 30 appearances for Belgium, featuring four times at the World Cup in 2014 as the Red Devils were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Argentina.
