COMMENTARY

Poor Jordan Henderson. He can’t even open his mouth to deliver his honest opinion without some Liverpool fans destroying him, for what is often no good reason. That is certainly the case in the wake of his latest comments while on international duty with England. The 28-year-old has been quoted by the Independent as saying he has “something different” to offer his club and country as he is able to thrive in the midfield anchorman role he has primarily played in under Jurgen Klopp and the more advanced role he was given during the international break. When those quotes were reported on Twitter, a section of Liverpool fans saw it as an opportunity to lay into the Anfield captain, even though he performed well for England in their demolitions of Montenegro and Czech Republic, as well as for Liverpool for much of this season. Henderson’s critics appear to base much of their criticism on the fact that his game is based upon industry, serving the team, winning the ball and closing down space. Some of the criticism is unnecessarily harsh.
