'That's going to be one to watch' - Exclusive: Danny Mills baffled by Everton star demotion
Danny Mills has admitted that he was baffled by Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to leave Mason Holgate out of the Everton starting line-up against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England international suggested that the 23-year-old may have been carrying a knock, which could have justified his manager’s decision to leave him out of his first XI.
Michael Keane was brought in to partner Yerry Mina at the heart of defence, with the Toffees seeing off the Eagles in a commanding 3-1 victory that extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five matches.
But Mills has been quick to voice his surprise at Holgate being axed.
“I don’t know if he’s picked up a bit of a knock or anything like that, but it’s an interesting one,” he told Football Insider.
“Mason Holgate has been playing great, he’s changed all his form around and then he was left out of the side.

“All of a sudden Michael Keane comes in, they win the game – again, that’s going to be one to watch I think.
“I just wonder whether maybe he had a little bit of a knock or something like that.”
Holgate has impressed for Everton this season, establishing himself as a first team mainstay under both Marco Silva and Carlo Ancelotti.
The centre-back, who spent last season on loan at West Brom, has featured in 19 Premier League matches so far this season, and prior to Saturday’s clash, had started every game since October 26th.
