Noel Whelan has been left head over heels with Leeds United striker Eddie Nketiah after the youngster made his debut against Salford City.
The former Leeds forward and lifelong fan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that he was blown away by the Arsenal loanee’s performance in the League Cup as he managed to grab a goal for the Whites.
The 20-year-old finished off an impressive attacking move, stabbing Helder Costa’s low cross home after the winger was played through by Jamie Shackleton.
Whelan says that Nketiah’s movement is one of his biggest strengths and that it will lead to plenty of goals for the youngster during his time at Elland Road.
“I’m really excited, I thought his performance was absolutely brilliant,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“I was really excited about watching him and seeing what all the hype was about, I tell you what, the hype is real. He’s a very, very good football player and he will get a let of goals just because of his movement and intelligence.
“He’s lively, for a young man he’s got a very mature way of playing. He knows when to release the ball and then he’ll move away. He’s got pace, he’s got brains but his movement inside that box, wow. I was loving him from the first whistle.”
Nketiah has a limited amount of first-team football under his belt, with his appearance at Salford just the 20th senior game he has played in during his fledgeling career.
Only three of his 19 appearances at Arsenal came in the starting XI, with three goals to his name for the Gunners.
In other Leeds United news, Danny Mills has told Football Insider that one Whites star is “walking a tightrope” at Elland Road.
