Alan Hutton has suggested Ben Doak could make more first team appearances for Liverpool after the winter break.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said former club Celtic have had a "nightmare" by losing Doak.

On Monday (14 November), the Reds confirmed the 17-year-old has signed his first professional contract with the Anfield club.

The winger made his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup against Derby last week (9 November) after coming on as a substitute.

The Scot kept his place on the bench for the Premier League game against Southampton on Saturday (12 November) but wasn't used by Jurgen Klopp.

Doak joined the Reds' under-18s side from Celtic's youth set up in the summer.

The forward has made 16 appearances for the Liverpool youth team and has scored eight goals in those outings.

When asked if Doak could have the chance for more first team appearances after the break, Hutton told Football Insider: "I do not see why not.

"It is purely going to be down to him. I think he has shown he has got the ability.

"But, I think it would be too soon to just throw him into such a pressurised situation. I think Klopp is doing it the right way because there is his opportunity to get minutes and experience.

Liverpool

"He is going to bring him into the first team fold when he sees fit. But he is definitely a talented kid.

"For Celtic to lose him is a bit of a nightmare. He has got plenty of time on his hands there is no need to rush. He has now signed his first pro deal so the world is his oyster now."
