'There's something going on' - McNamara reacts to 'Personal' spat involving Celtic ace

Jackie McNamara suggests that there are “personal” issues between Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths and former Rangers star Kris Boyd after the Hoops’ win over Kilmarnock.

The former Celtic and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says the Bhoys star appeared to take offence to the comments of the 36-year-old after scoring on Wednesday night.

Griffiths ran over towards the TV gantry, where Boyd was on duty for Sky Sports, after netting at Rugby Park, pointing and putting his finger to his lips.

McNamara says there is clearly something going on between the two of them after what he saw and says Boyd was making the issue personal with his comments as a pundit.

McNamara told Football Insider: “I think there’s something going on, Kris Boyd spoke about it after the game. It seemed to be directed (at him).

“With Kris, it seemed personal, personal stuff. He talked about the game but to have his stats and things like that so quickly there, he’s obviously been thinking about it.

“Maybe the two of them have had a little ding-dong against each other. It definitely appears that way. They should be talking about the positive stuff rather than the negative. I think with Kris’ comments there’s something personal between them.”

Griffiths’ goal against Kilmarnock was his fifth strike in 20 appearances this season, although only seven of those outings have come among the starting XI.

He has made a bright start to 2020, netting two goals in his last two games.
