'They have to spend' - Mills makes £200m+ Liverpool transfer claim as rumours mount
EXCLUSIVE
Former England star Danny Mills claims that French forward Kylian Mbappe will cost in excess of £200million as he urges Liverpool to spend some money this summer.
The ex-Leeds and Manchester City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists that Jurgen Klopp’s side cannot afford to stand still after finishing as runners up in the Premier League.
Speculation has been mounting over a potential move for France and PSG star Mbappe, the 20-year-old’s answers in interviews and social media behaviour doing little to quash the rumours.
However, Mills says he cannot see Liverpool spending a massive amount of money on one individual player, insisting that a number of new arrivals are needed at Anfield to keep the pressure on Manchester City.
“Mbappe is clearly an immense talent, but what’s Mbappe going to cost you?” Mills asked when talking exclusively to Football Insider.
“Wow, realistically, £200million, maybe more. Are Liverpool really going to pay that amount for Kylian Mbappe? I know he’s very, very young but I don’t see that happening, certainly not at that price?
“I don’t think they need a marquee signing but I certainly think they have to spend because if you stand still you go backwards. Klopp has come out and said we need to spend some money to move on and go to the next level.
“They’ve still got to beyond Manchester City to rip that first title for 30 years away from them. If you want to move forward, they’ve got to add two or three quality squad players.”
Mbappe, who has 33 caps and 13 goals under his belt for France, scored 39 times in 43 appearances for PSG across all competitions during the 2018/19 campaign.
Last summer saw Liverpool spend heavily on strengthening the core of their side, with Alisson, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri all heading to Merseyside.
In other Liverpool news, it can be REVEALED that a Reds international is looking to leave Anfield as he tells friends he wants out.
