Aston Villa striker Wesley Moraes will be loved by his teammates for his fearless playing style, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United and Coventry City striker explained why the forward has already made a big impression for his new club.
Wesley has spearheaded the Villa attack in each of the club’s three Premier League games this season after being one of 12 new signings made by the club during the summer window.
The Midlands giants lost their opening two games, but Wesley got their campaign up and running with the first goal in ther 2-0 win over Everton last Friday.
“Wesley deserves a lot of credit,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He holds the ball up well, brings others into play, has power and a big frame. He’s a real handful for centre-backs.
“He is not scared of standing up for himself and his teammates. I saw him standing up to Yerry Mina, who’s a big lad. The Villa players, they will love him in the dressing room for that, I can promise you.
“His goal will have given him great confidence that he can do it in the Premier League. It’s important the midfielders pick his runs, which is what happened with the goal.
“It was a great diagonal run, a lovely through ball and his first-time finish was perfect.”
Wesley joined Villa from Club Brugge for £22million this summer during the start of the club’s mammoth overhaul of the promotion-winning squad.
In other Aston Villa news, Football Insider can reveal that the club are in talks over agreeing a deal with a promising attacker.
