Noel Whelan has claimed it would take £90million to prize Raul Jimenez away from Wolves this summer.

The former Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted the performances of the 28-year-old are deserving of such a price tag.

According to Spanish reports, the striker is the subject of interest from Real Madrid this summer as their search for Karim Benzema’s heir continues.

Jimenez has enjoyed another successful campaign at Molineux scoring 22 goals and providing 10 assists in his 44 appearances.

When asked if the Mexico international was ready for a move to the La Liga giants, Whelan told Football Insider: “When you see the goals and the assists he has come up with this season – yes.

“They are a giant of a club and I am sure it will whet the appetite of any player when you get linked with a Real Madrid or Barcelona. But, it is going to take a lot of money to prize him away if that is the case. They will be demanding around the £80-90million mark.

“That is what he has done for Wolves, that is what he has done for himself. He has demanded that price tag and if Wolves do let him go it will be for no less than that. They will be demanding a lot of money.”

Jimenez only signed from Benfica permanently last July following a successful loan spell the season prior.

The Mexican forward still has three years left on his current contract so any potential deal would command a fee significantly larger than the £30million paid by the Wanderers last year.

In other Wolves news, Paul Robinson has told Football Insider transfer target will be available this summer.
