Alan Hutton says that both he and the Aston Villa dressing room are expecting big things from Jota after his arrival at the club this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa defender, who saw his contract at Villa Park come to an end this summer, says that the squad are very excited by the Spanish winger and what he can bring to the team.
The 28-year-old joined Dean Smith’s men from local rivals Birmingham City, the Villa boss reuniting with his former player after their Brentford days.
Having played against Jota during his time in the Championship, Hutton reveals he is looking forward to the wide man make his mark in the Premier League, revealing that the current Villa players are equally as excited.
Hutton told Football Insider: “They’re so excited about him. His quality is there for everybody to see.
“He’s that guy in that David Silva role, you don’t really need the pace because his ability gets him to where he wants to be. I played against him a few times and he’s a very difficult player to come up against.
“You think you’re faster than him, you’ve got him but then he gives a little shimmy and he’s away from you. I expect big things from him and I think all the players do as well. I expect a lot of good to come from him this season.”
Hutton and Jota came up against each other on three separate occasions, with one win, one draw and one defeat apiece – Jota setting up an assist in a 3-0 win for Brentford in their first head-to-head.
In other Aston Villa news, Hutton has told Football Insider that he thinks one “Outstanding” Villa star is fretting behind the scenes.
