Thiago 'now a huge part of Liverpool' after being held back by 'personal situation' - pundit

Danny Mills has suggested Thiago Alcantara is over the issues that held him back at the beginning of his Liverpool career.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England full-back insisted Thiago is now a “huge part” of Liverpool after his great recent form.

The midfielder, 30, has scored twice in his last three appearances in all competitions for the Reds.

According to FBRef, he averages 72 completed passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League this term.

Manchester City’s Rodri (77) is the only midfielder to have played at least 300 minutes who averages more.

“Sometimes it takes players time to settle in,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“It’s a different way of life, a different place to live.

“There are off-field personal situations to deal with that might be uncomfortable, it’s moving your family.

“You also have to get used to new teammates, a different style of play in a different league.

“All these things go into the mix. He’s clearly a good player and has settled down now so it’s got to the stage where it is OK.

“He knows and understands the rhythm of the game and how Liverpool want to play. He’s not breaking down anymore which is what he was accused of early on.

“He’s now a huge part of Liverpool and has so much to offer. Why would you not utilise all those skills that he’s got.”

Thiago moved to Liverpool from Bayern Munich last summer (2020) after winning the Champions League with the Bundesliga club.

The Spain international is under contract at Anfield until the summer of 2024.
