Thierry Henry has hailed Tottenham as “scary” after their landmark win over Chelsea but warned that star duo Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose could quit this summer.
The Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit drooled over Spurs after they won 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to secure their first win at the stadium in 28 years.
But Henry insisted that the summer transfer market will be instrumental in whether Mauricio Pochettino’s side can continue their upward graph in the coming years.
“Tottenham are so good it is scary and it is not easy for me to say that,” said the Frenchman on Sky Sports’ main event channel in the immediate wake of Sunday’s win. “But the question is, can they hold on to their best players?
“What’s going to happen to Rose? What’s going to happen to Alderweireld?
“You might lose the best left-back in the league in Danny Rose, one of the best centre-backs in Alderweireld.”
Football Insider verdict:
Given that Rose was an unused substitute and Alderweireld did not even make the matchday squad for the triumph at Chelsea, it is testament to the progress that continues to be made under the stewardship of Pochettino. Most Tottenham fans would agree that Rose and Alderweireld would make their best available XI if fully fit, but the form and consistency of Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez has placed them in the unwelcome position of watching on from the sidelines. The situation of the Belgium centre-back, well known to Henry from his role as assistant coach of the national side, feels especially tenuous, given that he is out of contract in the summer of 2019 and talks over a new contract have broken down.
In other Tottenham news, the club are working on a deal to sign a 29-year-old left footer who would be a sensational signing.
