The criticism of the Liverpool players after defeat to Atletico Madrid is a “great talking point”, according to Michael Brown.
The former Tottenham and Leeds midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that it goes to show how impressive the Anfield stars have been that they are coming under fire for one defeat.
An early goal from Saúl was enough to give the Spanish side victory in the first leg of their Champions League clash, the return leg taking place at Anfield in just under three weeks.
Brown insists that seeing the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold come under fire demonstrates just how high expectations have become for the Reds this season.
Brown told Football Insider: “This is brilliant, it’s a great talking point – we see Liverpool lose a game and all of a sudden we see (criticism).
“I was listening last night talking about van Dijk, was it an off game, was he entitled to one? There are questions about Trent Alexander-Arnold, it’s quite amazing the level they’ve earned.
“Look at what he’s done this year as a young player.”
Liverpool have not lost a single Premier League game this season, with the only game Klopp and his men have dropped points in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United.
However, they have now been beaten twice on the European stage, losing to Atletico and Napoli, while a young Reds side were thrashed 5-0 by Aston Villa in the League Cup.
In other Liverpool news, Brown has been left drooling over one Anfield ace he is actually worried about.
