Exclusive: Danny Mills delivers verdict on Lyle Taylor walking out on Charlton
Danny Mills has thrown his weight behind Lyle Taylor walking out on Charlton Athletic before the Championship season finishes.
The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted the 30-year-old “cannot risk” injury with a potentially life-changing move on the cards this summer.
A number of top Championship clubs are battling Galatasaray and Rangers to sign the striker who is out of contract on 30 June.
Taylor revealed he will not extend his contract by a month and help Charlton avoid relegation over fears he will suffer an injury that could scupper a potential move.
The former Wimbledon has already missed a chunk of the season after he injured his knee while on international duty with Montserrat.
When asked by Football Insider if he sympathised with the player’s position, ex-Addicks ace Mills said: “I completely get it.

“It is not a popular opinion but he is 30-years-old. This is his final, big contract.
“He has not signed a pre-contract and he is not 21 – there are not going to be as many deals on the table for players this year. He cannot risk it.
“His contract runs out and it is incredibly awkward and exceptional circumstances but I get it.
“I cannot say that I would not do the same thing in his situation. People talk about loyalty to clubs but if he gets injured are Charlton going to give him another year? Another four-year deal if he gets injured? No they are not.
“Put yourself in his shoes – wouldn’t we all do that?”
Football Insider revealed that the striker’s current teammates are “livid” with his decision as they all have relegation clauses in their contracts.
Taylor has scored 11 goals in just 22 Championship appearances this term.
