Alan Hutton has insisted Steven Gerrard has "unfinished business" at Rangers amid interest from Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and boyhood fan admitted he expects the 41-year-old to remain at Ibrox for another couple of years.

Rangers

A Newcastle source has told this site the Rangers boss, Leicester's Brendan Rodgers and Everton's Rafael Benitez are the new regime's top managerial targets.

However, speaking on his talkSPORT show (11th October), broadcaster Jim White stated he "knows for a fact Gerrard is extremely happy with life at Rangers."

Hutton insisted the Ibrox boss is still "building something" despite last season's Premiership title win.

As such, he suggested Gerrard would want to see that through before "jumping ship".

Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "I just think you have to look back at all his interviews in the past.

"He really does believe that he's building something at Rangers for the future, for the next X amount of years.

"He just doesn't seem the type of guy to me that, the first offer that comes up, he would jump ship and move.

"Maybe further down the lane, something like that would be an option. Of course, it'd be a great opportunity for any manager. I think he's still got unfinished business at Rangers.

"He's still working behind the scenes daily to make Rangers a better team. I'm happy to see him maybe distancing himself from it a little bit."

Gerrard joined Rangers back in 2018 and won his first piece of silverware as a manager last season.
