With Mile Jedinak in the final stage of his career, Aston Villa need reinforcement in the central defensive midfield position in the summer transfer window.
Football Insider analyses three potentially A-list anchormen Aston Villa could snap up in the summer to help add quality and depth to the squad next season.
James McCarthy – A player who is finding first-team football hard to come by at Everton and one that would compliment the midfielders currently at the club. Experience, quality on the ball and solidity in defence, if Steve Bruce could pull this deal off, he would be a real coup.
Aaron Mooy – The Manchester City midfielder is on loan at Huddersfield and has won plaudits for his defensive performances. Strong, dynamic and the ability to press the opposition aggressively. He would add quality to Villa’s midfield, having already proven this with the Terriers when he was named in the Championship Team of the Season.
Timothy Fosu Mensah – The Manchester United academy product is a versatile player who can play across the defence and in front of the back four. A loan deal would be more suitable and a player Bruce should look at. Bristol City striker Tammy Abraham, on loan from Chelsea, is a prime example of how you can add a young talent from a top tier club to your squad and bring them best out of them.
