Three senior players that could quit Rangers in January

COMMENT By Will Butcher

After Mark Warburton made 11 Rangers signings in the summer, it was inevitable that some members of the squad would find themselves out of favour.

In what has been a difficult first half to the season for the Gers, one of those signings has already left. Joey Barton found himself walking through the Ibrox exit door after plenty of controversy in Glasgow.

With January fast approaching, here are three players that could join Barton in leaving the 54-time Scottish champions:

Lee Hodson

Signed from MK Dons in the summer, the Northern Ireland international has struggled to earn a place in Warburton’s side.

Undisputed first-choice right-back James Tavernier has been consistent on the right side of the Gers’ defence, and is unlikely to be dropped in favour of Hodson.

Despite scoring against Aberdeen earlier this month, Hodson has made just eight appearances and could jump ship before his career begins to stagnate.

Martyn Waghorn

During pre-season, Waghorn was looked as the man to mount the Gers title assault against Old Firm rivals Celtic after scoring 28 goals in 36 games last season.

However, an argument with Warburton behind the scenes over a potential new contract has seen the likes of Joe Garner and Joe Dodoo preferred to lead the Rangers attack.

With less than 18 months remaining on his Rangers deal, Waghorn could find himself being ushered out of Ibrox before they risk losing him on a free.

Philippe Senderos

It has been a frustrating start to life in Glasgow for the former Arsenal defender.

Receiving his marching orders in the 5-1 loss to Celtic, the 31-year-old has since struggled with injury and as a result has plummeted down the centre-back pecking order.

With Danny Wilson and Rob Kiernan considered first choice, Senderos could look to save his dwindling career with a move elsewhere.

In other Rangers transfer news, Warburton has revealed he is targeting multiple players from this part of the world.
