Football Insider analyses the three talking points as Newcastle beat Wolves 1-0 in their Championship clash on Saturday evening.

Diame is as influential as Shelvey

When the powerful midfielder gets on the ball and drives through the middle of the park, he shows the bundle of talent he possesses. Jonjo Shelvey is no doubt the club’s best player, but Mohamed Diame, when on form, has shown that he is influential as the former Liverpool man. There were a number of times when the Wolves midfield could not handle his driving force which resulted in numerous free kicks for the away side. Promotion is looking likely for the north east club and Diame’s performances will be key to that success during the latter stages of the campaign.

Newcastle will win the Championship

The Magpies returned to the top of the table with their win in the Midlands and with the quality they have in the team it will remain that way come the end of the campaign. Rafa Benitez has done a magnificent job and if they avoid the defeats at home then they will steam role ahead of their nearest rivals Brighton. At this moment in time, they are one point ahead of the Seagulls but even without their star man Dwight Gayle, they can still pick up valuable three points away from home.

Newcastle should sign Costa

The young Portuguese star was lively against Rafa Benitez’ side and certainly got the crowd on their feet when he had the ball at his feet. His pace, movement and ability on the ball, certainly suggests that he is tailor-made for Premier League football. Wolves won’t be going up this season, but the Magpies certainly look to be heading in that direction. Therefore, Benitez should add the young attacker to his ranks in the summer, despite Helder Costa making a permanent £13million move to Wolves from Benfica in January. He would add depth, quality and would be able to play and cause problems on either wing.

In other Newcastle news, talks underway as the club make the first move to secure these two midfield deals.
