Three ways Everton can fit Sigurdsson into starting XI as Koeman transfer revolution takes shape

Ronald Koeman has reportedly urged his Everton board to complete a deal for Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer, but it remains unclear how he would fit into Everton's side.

The Sun claim Dutch manager Koeman has told his board in no uncertain terms that they must complete a deal to sign the 27-year-old, despite having two bids rejected.

It is said that Paul Clement's Swansea have most recently knocked back a bid worth a huge £45million for the Iceland international, as the Welsh club hold out for £50million.

In another report from the tabloid newspaper, they claimed on their website that fellow playmaker Ross Barkley had played his last game for the Toffees with Sigurdsson set to replace him.

But after completing deals to sign Davy Klaassen from Ajax and fan favourite Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, it is difficult to see how Sigurdsson can fit into the Toffees side.

Football Insider compares three ways in which the former Tottenham star can be embedded into Koeman's starting eleven, with one formation containing a brand new four-man attack:

4-3-3: Cutting in from the left

Last season, Sigurdsson starred on the left flank as Swansea miraculously avoided relegation to the Championship largely thanks to the attacker's heroics in the final third.

Swansea's number 23 featured in every single one of his side's 38 Premier League matches, having a hand in 22 goals as he scored nine times and laid on a further 13 assists.

In what is his most natural position, Sigurdsson would play alongside Rooney and Belgian Kevin Mirallas would give width from the right flank, with Yannick Bolasie still injured.

3-4-2-1: One third of deadly attack

In a similar formation to the style Mauricio Pochettino found plenty of success with at Tottenham, Koeman could look to use wing-backs to supply the Toffees' width.

In what is a narrow two playmakers behind the striker, Sigurdsson would team up with fellow new signing Klaassen in an attempt to give England international Rooney the ammunition to fire Everton towards the top six.

In what would be one of the deadliest front threes in the Premier League, Sigurdsson would be more involved in the play and contribute on a larger scale than out wide.

4-2-3-1: Four new signings combine

In what is likely to be Koeman's most preferred formation, four new signings could combine to create a narrow threesome in attacking midfield.

Klaassen, Sigurdsson and Rooney would all be involved, in order to interchange and confuse their opposition markers, with another new face in Sandro Ramirez on the last man.

Such a system would cause havoc against Premier League sides, but in what is a very attack-minded system, Everton may suffer at the other end.
