Thursday talks scheduled: West Ham insider gives latest on Carvalho pursuit

By Harvey Byrne

West Ham have scheduled continued talks for Thursday as they push forward with their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfield enforcer William Carvalho, according to a club insider.

ExWHUemployee, who has proven to be a reliable source of Hammers information was asked via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday on what the latest was on the 25-year-old Portugal international.

To which ExWHUEmployee returned: “Talks will continue tomorrow (Thursday) but it’s not off.”

West Ham’s pursuit of Carvalho has reportedly been a long-drawn affair with some stating that the club were looking to seal his signature before last Saturday’s clash against Southampton.

However, with just three days remaining before the Hammers take on Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Saturday it looks like the Euro 2016 winner may not even make their third league game of the season.

Carvalho himself has also played just once for Sporting Lisbon in the new campaign, meaning he may also lack match fitness once he does sign.

Football Insider verdict:

West Ham fans are keen to get Carvalho over the line as soon as possible after suffering two defeats in their first two Premier League matches and a player of the Portuguese national’s reputation would install some optimism back into the Hammers’ fan base. However, the lack of developments is also causing some concern and there may be some other reasons as to why Carvalho hasn’t signed yet. West Ham missed out on a number of other targets last summer after aiming too high and it wouldn’t be too surprising if the Hammers finish the summer window without the midfield enforcer.

In other West Ham transfer news, the Hammers are reportedly confident of signing Carvalho before the Newcastle clash.
