Time is up: Celtic to offload cult hero who has been a nailed-on starter all season - report
By Richard Parks
Celtic are likely to sell defender Mikael Lustig in the summer window, according to a report.
The Daily Record claim that the Hoops are ready to offload the long-serving Swede even though he has remained a regular starter this season.
It is said that Brendan Rodgers is ready to move on without Lustig, who has made 225 appearances for the club since joining from Rosenborg six years ago.
The 63-times Sweden international, who is a cult hero with the fanbase, has made 40 appearances this season.
Football Insider verdict:
Only Scott Brown can count more trophies in his cabinet among the current Celtic squad, and Lustig deserves admiration for his achievements and staying power. But his performances this season have been way off the high standards of his peak. He has remained a mainstay of the starting XI, but that is perhaps more a reflection of the iffy standards of the backline than any great shakes from the Swede. Lustig has been a mighty fine Celtic player but his time is up and he should be thanked for his services and handed the graceful exit he deserves in the summer window.
