'To lose him would leave a huge hole'- Exclusive: Paul Robinson reacts to big Celtic development

Paul Robinson has urged Celtic to “do everything they can” to get Odsonne Edouard tied down a new deal as he is “the difference” between them and Rangers.

The former England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested it is imperative the Hoops have the 22-year-old at the club next season if they want to make it 10 titles in-a-row.

Neil Lennon yesterday confirmed that talks had begun with the French striker’s representatives over a new deal.

Edouard, who has been the subject of interest from a number of Premier League sides, still has two years remaining on his current contract.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker scored 27 goals in 45 appearances and finished the top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership after the season was curtailed last month.

When asked by Football Insider if he expected the two parties to come to an agreement, Robinson said: “The impact that he has had up there, the way that he has played and the goals that he has scored have turned him into a cult hero.

“He has been key to everything that they do. To lose him would leave a huge hole.

“The Premier League is a great draw. I can see it happening but I would like to see Celtic do everything they can to keep hold of him.

“They will need him if they are to try and win the league again next year. I think he is very, very important to them.

“Rangers will have another go again next season but I think he is the difference between the two sides.”

Neil Lennon, as quoted by Sky Sports, said: “We’re doing everything we can to keep him here for at least another season anyway.

“I think he’s got a fantastic relationship certainly with me and my backroom team and his team-mates.”
