West Ham great and Sky Sports pundit Tony Gale has slammed the club’s recruitment, claiming they’ve signed a load of “rubbish”.
The east London club were hopeful going into the summer as they moved into their new London Stadium home while also boasting Europa League football.
Manager Slaven Bilic looked to meet the expectations around the club by bringing in a massive 11 senior players into the club.
But, a number of those additions such as Gokhan Tore, Jonathan Calleri, Simone Zaza, Alvaro Arbeloa and Havard Nordtveit have not worked out.
This resulted in the Hammers falling out of Europe and starting the Premier League season in dismal form and Gale has struck out at those in charge of the recruitment at the club.
“They got linked with everyone, but they didn’t get anyone,” started Gale on Wednesday morning’s Premier League Daily show on Sky Sports News.
“They got a lot of rubbish at the start of the summer. The recruitment was poor from West Ham and as good as it was the season before it’s been bad in the last recruitment and that’s shown in the results. You can only do with what you’ve got as players.”
West Ham also brought in both Jose Fonte and Robert Snodgrass in the winter window and so far the experienced duo have also struggled to impress an expectant fan base.
The club are currently sat in 12th place with nine matches of the season left and while it is doubtful they will match last season’s seventh finish they will still be keen to end the season in good form.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are considering a move for this Chelsea striker.
