Top-flight club reluctantly accept seven-figure Nottingham Forest offer - report

By Harvey Byrne

Newly promoted Scottish Premiership club Hibernian have “reluctantly accepted” a major offer from Nottingham Forest for star Jason Cummings, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun has detailed that the Midlands giants have reached an agreement for a seven-figure offer with Neil Lennon’s side for the 21-year-old forward.

It is believed that manager Mark Warburton initially expressed an interest to take him to Ibrox and he now looks close to having secured his long-term target.

The report details that a medical will be pencilled in for this week and that Forest do not expect any issues in completing the deal.

Cummings played a key role in Hibernian’s title-winning Championship campaign last season, playing 31 matches in the league, while returning an impressive 19 goals.

That goal return saw five goals more than Forest’s last season top scorer Britt Assombalonga, who managed 14 goals in 32 league outings, while behind him saw a huge gap with Apostolos Vellios the second highest scorer with just six in 28 Championship matches.

March appointment Warburton will be looking to move his side clear of the relegation zone after surviving on goal difference in the last campaign and he may see the goals of Cummings as a good addition to his side.

Football Insider verdict:

Nottingham Forest are clearly in desperate need of goals and that is one thing that Cummings showed he can do at Hibernian. However, Forest fans may be wary as while he scored 19 goals in the Scottish Championship, that may not the best level to judge if a player can then bring that to the English Championship. Plenty of better players have failed to make the transition from the Scottish Premiership to the Championship and therefore this deal will always be a risk, especially with reports of a seven-figure offer having been agreed.
