Kevin Phillips expects his former teammate Wilfried Zaha to hold out for a move to Arsenal or Tottenham despite interest from Everton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Jason Jones, Phillips delivered his verdict as Everton continue to monitor long-term target Zaha.
The Tofees will not match their £70m+ bid of last summer but have asked to be kept informed about the winger’s situation, as revealed by Football Insider.
Phillips played with Zaha at Crystal Palace towards the back end of his career as the young Zaha earned a move to Manchester United.
Asked by Football Insider whether the Ivory Coast international would improve Everton, Phillips said: “He could do the job at most clubs.
“Having played with him and knowing him, leaving for Manchester United was probably too soon but now he’s developed and he’s got a lot of Premier League experience under his belt.
“He’s showed that he’s become a consistent performer and his end product has got a lot better.
“It looks like Everton are a team that really want to push on and secure those European positions next season and if they secure the types of Zaha that’s certainly going to help you.
“Personally I think he thinks he could probably go to Arsenal or Tottenham and it wouldn’t surprise me if he was holding out for that because I know he loves London.
“I would imagine he’d rather go there than Everton but if he were to go to Everton he would improve them.”
Zaha has scored 57 goals in 362 games across all competitions for Palace.
