Chelsea could face further frustration over Nicolas Jackson after the striker's move to Bayern Munich fell through at the final hour.

Jackson was furious with Chelsea's decision to call off the loan deal this summer, with Enzo Maresca clearly feeling he needed another striker at Stamford Bridge following an injury to Liam Delap.

Moves for Delap and Joao Pedro have seen the Senegal international slip down the pecking order in West London, leading to the forward wanting more game time away from the Blues.

Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens have also been added to the forward line, leaving very little room for the player, especially after the decision to recall Marc Guiu from Sunderland.

Despite the club ordering the player to return to Stamford Bridge, having already jetted out to Germany to complete a deal, Jackson's agent has been more than vocal about Chelsea on social media.

Now, the transfer saga has taken a new, surprising twist ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday, 1 September, leaving Maresca completely in the dark over the availability of the 24-year-old striker.

Nicolas Jackson continues secret talks with Bayern Munich

Taking to X (1 September), Florian Plettenberg wrote: "Last nght, the loan deal for Nicolas Jackson and Bayern was officially off.

"It's unbelievable, but we've learned that top-secret negotiations and talks are ongoing again. Jackson deal to Bayern is back on! And Ademola Lookman is still in Italy."

The striker remains in Germany, attempting to force a move through to Bayern, even despite the Blues wanting him to return following an injury to one of Maresca's newest stars.

Football Insider verdict

While Jackson's discipline record has been a concern for Chelsea fans, there is no doubt that Maresca would be far more comfortable with a backup striker while Delap is sidelined.

Christopher Nkunku has sealed a move to AC Milan recently, leaving the manager with a multitude of wingers and attacking midfielders, but few options through the middle.

Football Insider understands that Charlton and Preston have made moves for David Datro Fofana, with the Blues likely depending on Jackson's return to Stamford Bridge to alleviate the new injury blow.

The Blues are currently unbeaten in the Premier League, having thrashed West Ham 5-1 before controversially beating Fulham 2-0, following an opening-game 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

With seven goals scored and one goal conceded, Maresca's side are currently sitting second in the Premier League table, and supporters are expecting more success this season.

Chelsea lifted the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup titles last term, and with a plethora of exciting signings, fans will be expecting a challenge for the Premier League trophy.
