Darren Bent has torn into Tottenham striker Harry Kane after looking “completely off the pace” against Manchester United on Friday.
The former Spurs hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 26-year-old was nowhere near the required level but that he has got to play to build up his fitness.
Kane played the full 90 minutes in Friday’s 1-1 draw, his first appearance since the Lilywhites’ defeat to Southampton on New Year’s Day.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho was quoted by Football.London as saying he was “really happy” with Kane’s performance after such a long time out of action.
However, Bent was not impressed by what he saw from the Tottenham talisman, admitting he looked miles off the required pace.
Bent told Football Insider: “I thought Harry Kane looked like he hasn’t found his legs back at all. He looked totally off the pace.
“It wasn’t quite them playing with a man down but he hasn’t found his form, his feet, yet. He obviously had the injury, he spent a long time out the game so to expect him to come back and be full throttle, that was never, ever going to be the case.
“The only way Harry Kane is going to get back to full match fitness is by playing games. For me he needs to keep playing and doing what he’s doing.”
Kane has scored 17 goals in 26 appearances for the Lilywhites this season, with 11 of those strikes coming in the Premier League.
Steven Bergwijn opened the scoring for Spurs against United but a Bruno Fernandes penalty ensured the points were shared.
