Tottenham already 'working on' signing Sergio Reguilon replacement after source reveal - pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested Tottenham will already be “working on” replacing Sergio Reguilon with a new left-back.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old could be the victim of Antonio Conte’s “ruthless” overhaul this summer.

A Spurs source told Football Insider (28 April) that the club will listen to offers for Reguilon this summer.

A Spanish side have already registered their interest in taking the six-cap international back to his home country.

Whelan insisted Conte would be considering the futures of all his full-backs and that he will already be “working” on replacing Reguilon.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I don’t think Conte’s going to sit there pondering. I think he’s quite ruthless with what he wants.

“He’s been in the club long enough to know who he does need and who he doesn’t need, who he wants to stay at the football club.

“He’ll have people in the background working on it. I don’t think they’ve had any continuity with full-backs right now.

“That’s one position where he’s really been struggling to find consistency, to find a regular full-back on either side.

“I still believe he’s not sure himself and when you’re not sure, that means trouble for play. This means you haven’t done enough to convince the manager.

“I still don’t believe he’s convinced by the wing-backs that he’s got at Tottenham.

“I think it’s something where he would allow players to leave and get in who he wants, that he is a bit more settled whether and what he wants in the side.”

Reguilon has made 20 appearances under Conte at Spurs this season.

The Spain international is contracted until 2025.
