Russell Martin's latest addition at Rangers has caught the attention of Tottenham and Southampton players on social media this summer.

Max Aarons' arrival was given the stamp of approval by Todd Cantwell, with Lyall Cameron, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez, Thelo Aasgaard, and Nasser Djiga all being signed so far.

Supporters at Ibrox are already extremely excited for the new season, with new owners making the necessary changes on and off the pitch, and there are more additions to come this summer.

While Martin's appointment was originally greeted with a lot of uncertainty, especially given the sorry ending to his role at St Mary's Stadium, many fans have now warmed up to his leadership.

Now, a brand-new attacker looks to have joined the ranks after weeks of back-and-forth with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

Rangers announce Djeidi Gassama transfer

Taking to Instagram (15 July), the official club account wrote: "We are, today, pleased to announce the signing of Djeidi Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday on a four-year deal."

Tottenham's Wilson Odobert and Southampton's Shea Charles, who spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, both liked the announcement at Ibrox.

Football Insider understood as recently as Friday, 11 July, that Gassama's move to Rangers was on the brink of collapse, with the Owls second-guessing the decision, but the parties appear to have overcome that hurdle.

Russell Martin continues major rebuild at Ibrox

Football Insider verdict

One of the main ambitions on the pitch next season will be competing against their Old Firm rivals, Celtic, and if Ally McCoist is right, Brendan Rodgers will be itching for a challenge from Rangers.

The Hoops won the Scottish Premiership title by a whopping 17 points, even competing well in the Champions League, while the Gers' only real success came in the Europa League.

There is certainly a good base for Martin to build on next season, and that is exactly what he is planning for, but there are likely some twists and turns coming his way over the coming weeks.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Hamza Igamane appears set to join Lille after West Ham and Everton had doubts over the striker's ability to step up to the Premier League.

With Cyriel Dessers also linked with an exit, the new manager could be left without a recognised striker for next season, which explains very strong links to Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy.

Boasting eight goals last season, Gassama will also alleviate some of the pressure in the final third, but supporters will be expecting some further additions to the squad.
