Kane to blame for 'suffering' Tottenham as his heart 'isn't in it' - pundit

Harry Kane will be to blame if Tottenham miss out on a top-six finish this season.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid the player’s poor form.

Kane, 28, has scored one Premier League goal this season and made little impression in today’s 1-0 defeat at the London Stadium.

However, he has scored six more goals in the EFL Cup and Europa Conference League.

The England captain has also bagged for his country during qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

However, McAvennie claims Kane’s Tottenham goals essentially amount to nothing as Spurs aren’t going to win the EFL Cup or Conference League.

“Kane is still struggling,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I get that he’s scoring goals in the other competitions but what is the point in judging him on that?

“Are Tottenham going to win the Carabao Cup? No. Are they going to win the Conference League? Not the way they are going right now.

“They are suffering in the Premier League because their star man isn’t performing.

“Yes, he scored against Newcastle. Most people could have scored against Newcastle last week.

“If Tottenham don’t finish in the top six or whatever and Kane has scored 20 odd goals, it’s not his fault.

“If they do that this season and he gets 10, for example, it is his fault. He needs to turn his form around.

“Off the ball, he’s been offering very little other than in that Newcastle game.

“I really don’t think that his heart is in playing for Tottenham.”
