Sources: Tottenham submit Chaplin offer as early deal on the cards

Tottenham have offered a scholarship contract to rising star defender Archie Chaplin, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 15-year-old centre-back, who turns 16 later this month, is already playing for the club’s Under-18s despite his young age.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider the club are working on securing Chaplin to a scholarship deal that would see him part of next year’s Academy intake.

The London giants typically offer scholarships around February or March, with the deals then starting on 1 June.

But Tottenham are keen to tie down Chaplin with an early offer due to his immense promise.

The teenager, who turns 16 on 28 October, has been a regular for the club in the Under-18s Premier League this season.

He has played the full 90 minutes in each of the last three fixtures, which have included wins over Reading and West Ham.

Spurs are mindful of the possibility of losing Chaplin to a rival club amid the intense competition among elite teams for the best young British talent.

That is the same reason they have also offered an early scholarship deal to the teenager’s fellow 15-year-old Samuel Amo-Ameyaw.

Chaplin is a centre-back who is making strides as rapid as versatile attacker Amo-Ameyaw.

Tottenham are hoping the duo could follow in the footsteps of the likes of Dane Scarlett, who only turned 17 in March but has already made five first-team appearances.
