Paul Robinson has backed Tottenham to sign AS Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo by the end of the January transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 23-year-old could be "the next Dejan Kulusevski".

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte wants to bolster his squad by next Sunday's deadline.

According to Sky Sports (26 January), Tottenham are interested in signing AS Roma's Zaniolo.

However, Bournemouth are said to already be in talks with Jose Mourinho's side over a deal for the attacking midfielder.

When asked by Football Insider if Zaniolo would be a welcome addition at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Robinson said: "I think Spurs do lack a bit of creativity at times.

"That was evident when Kulusevski was out. Son [Heung-min] has been so inconsistent this season. He hasn't the heights of last year. As a team, they do not create a lot of chances. [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg and [Rodrigo] Bentancur are more defensively minded.

"If the system changed slightly, a Zaniolo or a James Maddison would fit in at Spurs. I would love to see Maddison come in. I cannot see Leicester doing business with anyone this month though. Their resources are tight so that is a deal that would have to wait for the summer.

"Zaniolo is of a similar type of mould though. Perhaps he could be the next Kulusevski or Bentancur - a steal from Italy in the January window."
