Tottenham could sign Richarlison's ex-teammate after stance revealed by journalist - pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Tottenham may return to Everton to try and sign Anthony Gordon later in the window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham and Celtic player insisted Antonio Conte will want to capitalise on the Toffees’ financial struggles to sign the 21-year-old.

The Toffees confirmed (1 July) that Richarlison had left the club to Tottenham on a permanent basis.

Sky Sports revealed (28 June) Spurs are also interested in signing Gordon.

According to Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold (30 June), the winger would be keen to move to north London but will not force an exit from Goodison Park.

McAvennie suggested that the winger would be willing to leave Everton if the price was right.

He’s an Evertonian, he won’t want to leave but if the price tag is met then he’ll want to go and improve and try and win things.” he told Football Insider.

“At the moment, Tottenham look, for the first time in years, like they’re going to go and do something next season.

“They’re in a wee bit of bother Everton. It’s the same in any business when you’re in trouble people come in and put the boot in when you’re down.

Conte will have no hard feelings about going in and taking players away from him, good players as well.

“I can see why Conte would want him [Gordon]. To go and work with one of the best coaches in the world, Conte, it would be great for Gordon as a player and person.

“He wants the right kind of attitude in players and I think he wants everything right in their life as well as on the football pitch. I think that’s what Conte does.”
