Tottenham could sign two centre-backs this month after 'exceptional' Dier update - pundit
Tottenham could sign two centre-halves in the January transfer window if Eric Dier’s injury is “significant”.
That is the view of former White Hart Lane number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs “accelerating” their transfer plans this month.
As quoted by Football.London (11 January), Antonio Conte suggested Dier would be absent for tonight’s League Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea.
It comes after the centre-half missed Sunday’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Morecambe through injury.
Cristiano Romero is also currently sidelined for Spurs.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his reaction to Dier’s injury, Robinson said:

“Without Dier and Romero they are looking really light back there. Dier has played most games since Conte has come in and he has done exceptionally well.
“I don’t think Sanchez is the answer. He just makes too many mistakes. I don’t think Dier is world-class but he has come on this year. For those reasons I thought Spurs were going to sign a centre-back in January anyway.
“If Dier’s injury is significant then I expect them to accelerate their transfer plans. I think we could see two centre-halves coming in if the injury is bad.”
When asked about Dier’s injury, Conte said: “I don’t want to speak about names. But we have a couple of situations, a couple of injuries that are very close to start playing again.
“It’s important to give them the right time to recover and for this reason tomorrow we didn’t recover any players from the last game.”
