Tottenham rising star Marqes Muir is expected to seal a permanent move to AZ Alkmaar, Football Insider can reveal.
The Dutch Eredivisie outfit have targeted the 18-year-old centre-back ahead of his scholarship contract at Spurs ending in the summer.
A Dutch source has told Football Insider that Alkmaar are closing in on Muir and hopeful of reaching an agreement by the end of next week.
This site revealed earlier this week that the fifth-placed Dutch club had opened talks over a potential deal for Muir.
They regard the composed young centre-back as a top talent capable of making it at the highest level.
Losing him would be a blow to Tottenham, whose academy has proved so fruitful over the last decade in helping the club compete with better resourced rivals.
As pointed out to Football Insider by finance expert Kieran Maguire, Spurs have massively overachieved partly due to their ability nurture young players.
London-born Muir joined Spurs in the summer of 2019 on a two-year scholarship contract.
Alkmaar are working on a deal to sign him in the January window and and then loan him out for the rest of the season in order to gain first-team experience.
Muir has been a regular for the Tottenham Under-18s side and captained them on a number of occasions in the last two seasons.
He has also featured for the club’s Under-23s and has impressed the Spurs hierarchy with the maturity of his performances.
Muir has made nine appearances in the Under-18 Premier League for the north Londoners this season.
However, he did not make the squad for their last match against West Brom in December.
