Tottenham are not interested in signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva, according to a report.
Football London claim that Mauricio Pochettino has “no interest” in signing the 28-year-old in the summer window, despite being linked with the Portugal international.
It is understood that the north London club do not plan to change their policy of brining through young players and believe that Harry Winks can be the next academy graduate to cement a spot in the starting line-up.
The report details that Silva’s arrival would block the development of Winks in a competitive midfield area.
Silva is a highly rated talent and the captain of Portuguese giants Sporting.
The central midfielder was an ever-present last season by making 36 appearances, scoring six goals and supplying four assists in return.
He has experience in the Champions League and won the Europa Championships with his country in 2016.
However, Pochettino is believed to be keen on helping Winks develop and he is being tipped for a bright future.
The 21-year-old became an important player for Spurs last season and featured 33 times for the senior team.
The central midfielder impressed with his calming influence in possession and will hope to follow the in the footsteps of teammate Harry Kane in becoming a talisman in the first team.
Football Insider verdict:
It is refreshing to see that Spurs are willing to stand by developing youngster Winks and he showed the signs last year that he can become a permanent fixture in the starting line-up. The Englishman is very accomplished in possession and kept the side ticking over when on the pitch. They have the combative duo of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama available to them in the centre of the park, but it’s also good to have a playmaker alongside them. Sporting midfielder Silva would be a great addition to the squad and has vital experience under his belt. However, they can save a lot of money by sticking with Winks and it could be a decision that pays off.
In other Tottenham transfer news, they are eyeing a 16-goal forward from Serie A.
