Daniel Levy has put the block on Tottenham selling Tanguy Ndombele this summer, Football Insider can reveal.
Jose Mourinho has major misgivings over the club-record signing and his future is the source of constant speculation.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that chairman Levy and the board have no plans to cash in on the France international, 23, as they are convinced he will eventually come good.
Spurs will listen to offers for a number of their fringe players this summer and they are likely to have to sell in order to fund multiple new signings.
But recouping most or all of the £54million spent initially on Ndombele last year is not on the agenda, and using him in potential swap deals has also been ruled out.
Talk about Ndombele’s future has intensified over the last week, with further questions asked after he was overlooked in Friday’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Man United.
Harry Winks and fit-again Moussa Sissoko were paired in central midfield and Mourinho ignored the record signing while bringing on two midfielder substitutes, Giovani Lo Celso and Gelson Fernandes.
Mourinho knows the board are expecting him to use all his famed man-management and coaching skills to coax the best out of the six-times France international.
Ndombele has a difficult relationship with the Portugese, who has publicly aired his frustration at the midfielder’s injury issues and work ethic.
Mourinho has subsequently held one-on-one sessions with Ndombele to get his fitness up to speed amid struggles to deal with the physical intensity of the English top flight.
In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been given big hope of signing 26-year-old desperate to join them.
