Paul Robinson has slammed the mentality of the Tottenham Hotspur squad after they conceded three goals in the final 10 minutes against West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper said the defenders and midfielders needed to step up and show some leadership.
The Lilywhites had cruised into a three-goal lead after just 16 minutes but conceded three times in the closing stages as they continued their search for their first clean sheet of the season.
They have not lost since their opening day defeat to Premier League leaders Everton but have not kept a clean sheet across nine games in all competitions.
Asked by Football Insider what he put Sunday’s result down to, Robinson said: “It’s mentality without a doubt.
“You can’t put it down to ‘one of those things’ because after 83 minutes you’re 3-0 up and completely cruising and then you fold like that.
“Yes, you can say ‘it’s one of those things, it was an own goal’ but there’s got to be leadership from the back.
“Harry Kane has led from the front I saw him making block tackles on the edge of the box but you can’t rely on one man to do it all.
“Yes he’s a talisman but Hugo Lloris is the captain. You need leaders in the back four, you need leaders in midfield.
“That comes from ‘right, we’re 3-1 down after 83 minutes we need to change a little bit, maybe shut up shop and start pressing, playing a little bit further higher up.’
“Somebody takes responsibility to pull everybody together and go ‘that’s it, we don’t concede any more, we win it 3-1.’
“It’s a mentality and lack of leadership. With eight minutes to go, you don’t concede three goals.”
