Mauricio Pochettino is set to ring the changes for Tottenham’s FA Cup clash against Newport County on Wednesday night as he keeps half an eye on forthcoming marquee fixtures.
Pochettino will be aware of the prevailing view that he needs some silverware to supplement the huge strides Spurs have made during his impressive four-year tenure.
But the Argentine will surely think his team have done the hard work by bouncing back to secure a 1-1 draw at Rodney Parade 10 days ago, courtesy of a late Harry Kane goal, to take the fourth-round clash back to Wembley.
The big conundrum for the Tottenham manager is which of his big guns to play against the League Two minnows on Wednesday, given that they host Arsenal at lunchtime on Saturday and then travel to Juventus three days later for a last-16 Champions League clash.
Can Pochettino afford to rest Kane, Christian Eriksen and company against Newport, or at least hold them in reserve on the substitute’s bench?
Or does he select a virtual full-strength side to ensure his team have their best chance of booking a fifth-round passage?
Football Insider names the likely Tottenham starting XI against Newport, which includes a recall for a huge fans favourite who many were surprised did not start against Liverpool last weekend.
