Tottenham expert can't believe 'incredibly bizarre' Heung-Min Son development

It is “bizarre” and “unfair” that Tottenham star Heung-Min Son has been overlooked by the PFA at their end-of-year awards.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Son, 30, was left off the list of players nominated for this season’s Professional Footballer’s Association player’s player of the year award when it was announced on 1 June.

This is despite the fact he finished as the joint-top scorer in the 2021-22 Premier League season.

Wenham wants to see Tottenham players rewarded for their achievements.

“I find it utterly bizarre,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“When I see some of the names on there, including our own Harry Kane. He had a very good season, don’t get me wrong but Sonny’s has been superior to him.

“He was joint-level with Salah for the golden boot. I just find it incredibly bizarre that he wasn’t nominated.

“Sonny scored against some big opponents this year. Liverpool away, Man City at home at the start of the season.

“He scored against Arsenal as well. To be completely overlooked from a panel of six, I find very unfair and disappointing.

“I was our players to be rewarded for their progress. Sonny was our player of the season and played a pivotal role in getting us back to the Champions League.

“I just find it bizarre.”

Son scored 23 goals in the 2021-22 Premier League.

He also registered nine assists and scored a further goal in the Europa Conference League.
