Tottenham expert issues 'embarrassing' Cristian Romero claim - 'this is unacceptable'
Tottenham star Cristian Romero’s first appearance at a World Cup was “embarrassing”.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Romero, 24, started as Argentina lost 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in their first game of the 2022 World Cup on Tuesday (22 November).
The defender was hauled off on the hour mark after Saudi Arabia had taken a stunning 2-1 lead.
Wenham couldn’t believe what he saw from Romero and the rest of Argentina’s players.
“From Romero’s point of view, it’s pretty embarrassing if I’m being honest,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He effectively saved himself, if you want to put it like that, to play for Argentina at the World Cup. His first game in there was humiliating.
“It is possibly Argentina’s worst-ever result, actually. For a country that expects so much, for a country that I have down as my absolute favourites to win this tournament, to start with a humiliating defeat to Saudi Arabia, no one saw that coming.
“I can’t imagine how they have reacted in the country. It will be seen as unacceptable, blasphemy even, to lose to Saudi Arabia.
“For Romero to get subbed off after five weeks of focusing on this, he will be very disappointed.”
Romero missed Spurs’ last four league games before the World Cup through injury.
He has made 13 total appearances this season, only failing to start when available on one occasion.
